Inadequate kidney
treatment for patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) is more
like, neglecting a patient on death bed. Almost 10 % of world’s population is
affected by CKD and needs proper treatment for escaping this globally faced
crisis. Taking Pakistan in consideration almost 25 million patients are facing
conditions, out of which 19% of those patients are in Punjab. Patients
suffering from diabetes or high blood pressure are prone to CKD, therefore the
government of Pakistan has initiated to spread awareness among young generation
by asking them to amend their diet plans, replacing idle living with an active
and healthy lifestyle. kidney diseases are harmful but often treatable if taken
in count timely.
Cause
Of CKD
High blood pressure (hypertension) and
diabetes are likely to be causes of chronic kidney disease.
Sometimes CKD is inherited or the result of the long-lasting
impasse to the urinary system such as enlarged prostate or kidney stones can
also cause CKD. Many of the patients are unaware of poor functioning of
their kidney, at the early stage because of mysterious behavior of not showing
any visible symptoms. Taking precautionary measures one should visit authorized
laboratories intended for getting urinary and blood check-ups for
pre-recognition of disease related to the kidney. Pain killers can
cause CKD (chronic kidney disease), especially (analgesic) if
used for a long-time period. Taking control of obesity and hypertension reduces
probabilities of getting involved in CKD (chronic kidney disease).
How to Treat CKD
There are different
diseases of the kidney that require dissimilar treatment. Suppose if
a patient’s kidney isn’t purifying the waste substance and blood then a
patient is said to be on dialysis treatment. In the case of
kidney failure, the process of replacing injured kidney with the healthy
one is called kidney transplant and it’s the only way out. This can
only be done when patient’s loved ones can’t see them in pain and agree
to donate one of their kidneys to the patient. Agreement with a
relative donor is very significant because selling or purchasing of human body
organs is highly unlawful in Pakistan. Any unauthorized doctor or person found
guilty in trading human organs or even if just involved in arranging a
volunteer to remove their organs illegally are assured to
be punished under (the transplantation of human organs and tissue
act 2010), the penalty can be Rs.
1,000,000(0ne million) and serving 10 years in
prison.
Dialysis
Treatment
Healthy kidneys clean
blood and remove fluid in the form of urine. Kidneys produce required
substances that keep our body healthy. Dialysis replaces the blood cleaning
process when kidneys no longer work on their own. There are two types of
dialysis: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
Hemodialysis
Type of dialysis in which
blood is pumped out of the body with the help of dialysis machine,
purified and then it's sent back, no doubt it’s a painful process. The annual
cost of one person reaches almost 2,00000 that appears
unaffordable. This process takes 3 to 5 hours and has to be done 3 to
2 times a week, hemodialysis can be performed at home for the ease of
patient. Affordability of renal diseases treatment is playing havoc on patients,
inadequate resources lead to fatal results and cause the demise of hope in
patients suffering from CKD.
Peritoneal
Dialysis
The particular type of
dialysis works on the same principle as of hemodialysis, the only dissimilarity
that exists is in the procedure. Purification of blood takes place within the
body unlike hemodialysis, its expenses are more than hemodialysis and its
availability is still scarce even in some of the best hospitals in Pakistan.
Free
Dialysis: A Bliss for Financially Unstable Patients
Provision of free
dialysis centre to financially unstable renal patients is like a thirst quenching sip
of person dying due to scarcity of water. In Pakistan, several trusts are
working for betterment of renal impairments faced by individuals. Bilqees Sarwar
Hospital is one of those hospitals which leaves no doubt about perfection in
medical surgeries with 50 dialysis
chairs it is the largest
dialysis facility across Punjab Pakistan. Honored for treating 7500 renal patients per month and 11471
Dialysis Treatments since June 2016.
Lack
of Awareness About Kidney Treatment
A large numeral of
Pakistan’s population is still in the dungeons of illiteracy, neither having
adequate sources nor enough knowledge about kidney treatment to sustain poor
kidney conditions which leads to immense harm. The need of this time is
created Maximum cognizance in the generation to prevent it from
having CKD. The initial step is to eat healthily, amend
unhealthy lifestyle and replace it with an active and healthy lifestyle more
precisely change in eating habit as mentioned above, obesity is one major cause
of CKD and reason for the increase in kidney patients. Awareness
programs on kidney treatment can play pivotal role
in minimizing the effect of CKD in Pakistan.
